Govt urged to take up turban ban issue with France

Dubbing the clamping of ban on headgear of Sikhs in France by the French Government as a grave and unjustified attack on the religious freedom of Sikhs, the Shiromani Akali Dal today urged the UPA-led Central Government to take up the case of Sikhs with the French government and ensure that the law banning the wearing of headgear in France should be revoked at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the SAD has authorised the party chief Mr Parkash Singh Badal to take decision on holding talks with partys alliance partner BJP on the issue of forthcoming byelection for Kapurthala and Garhshankar Assembly seats, selection of candidates and for the these elections and for selection of candidates for election of SGPC president and office-bearers.

A resolution of the PAC, the meeting of which was held under the chairmanship of Mr Badal here today, said Sikhs all over the world had been hurt by the ban on wearing of turban in France.

Blaze kills 100 animals

Ypu may be surprised to find out, it doesn't really show how good your Fire Department truely is. Since fires are only 20-25% of the total call volume. Insurance will build me a new house, but those medics that ISO does not count, saved the life of my neighbor. ISO does not rank how well the Hazardous Materials Team responds to incidents. ISO counts Water Supply, how well it is applied, how fast it gets applied, and for how long. By the way, what is your Non-Hydranted ISO Rating? How long is your longest Tender Shuttle? Or are you just a citified Firefighter with all of the conviences of home? By the way, you might want to look up http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=040026000110004566. Pay attention to the video! Read and absorb the report. Their ISO ratin is a "1"! Then come talk with me about Vollies and Career.

India's youths are in perilous grip of a smoking epidemic

My skin is even gross, my lips are black because of it," sighed Ahuja, her ashtray filled with cigarette butts. Her friends, a pilot and a writer, took long drags on their cigarettes, exhaled puffs of smoke and agreed that it's just not easy to stop smoking.

Young Indians, especially women like Ahuja, represent one of the largest markets for cigarette companies. They also face a high risk for smoking-related deaths, according to health officials.

Recent findings from the first nationally representative study of smoking in India found that this country is in the grips of a smoking epidemic likely to cause nearly a million deaths a year starting in 2010. There are 120 million smokers in India, half of them younger than 30, the study found. India has a larger population of smokers than any other country in the world except for China.

Clinton's confidence dwindles as aides face her campaign's possible ...

Obama is more than an empty suit. He has prospored only because so many people despise the Clintons. His position on most everything is identical to the Clintons' therefore the basic premise of most of his opinions have not been tested. His leftist view of the world just will not fly with most Americans.

Winter storms at both ends of the country dump snow, snarl travel

CHICAGO (AP) — Winter storms at both ends of the country dumped snow and snarled air and land travel Friday, killing at least 10 people, blocking major highways and even stranding 400 train passengers in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

Nearly 7 1/2 inches of snow was reported at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport before the front moved out of the area Friday. About 500 flights were canceled at O'Hare, which canceled 600 flights Thursday and housed hundreds of stranded travelers who spent the night awaiting planes from other cities also affected by the storm.

At least 12 inches of snow was reported in Springfield by Friday morning, said National Weather Service meteorologist Gino Izzi. Other parts of Illinois saw similar amounts.

"If you don't have to be out here, don't," Ty Wilson, a very wet Chicago bicycle messenger, said as he stopped along a slushy street between morning deliveries.

Your Comments : Price of flour goes up again

If the prices goes up (four) then cut down the consumption.Try other alternatives like cassava, yams, taro etc..If you buy bread 7 days a week, try to reduce to 3 days.Fiji is very rich in varieties of root crops, fruits, seafood etc..Four is not the only source of food. One can be creative and live healthy with our local food.
