| SGPC again expands itself
The SGPC today promoted five employees as assistant secretaries and two as additional secretaries, making the mini parliament of the Sikhs top-heavy. Avtar Singh today issued the promotion orders, which were his first order after becoming SGPC president for the third consecutive year. Interestingly, the SGPC had four full-fledged secretaries against one post during the tenure of Gurcharn Singh Tohra, who reigned the SGPC for 27 years. With the new promotions, the number of assistant secretaries and additional secretaries has risen to 15 and eight, respectively. Though the SGPC chief has claimed that the promotions will not put any additional burden on the exchequer of the SGPC, insiders say the newly promoted employees will be entitled to use the additional facilities like telephone, official vehicle etc.
Hong Kong's economy grew 6.3 percent in 2007; Tsang "cautiously ...
Delivering his budget, Tsang also proposed to immediately exempt the duties on wine, beer and all other alcoholic drinks to promote the local wine trading and distribution industry. The 80 percent duty was halved to 40 percent last year. He also suggested a slew of tax relief measures which included a range of one-off income and property tax rebates, and lowering the standard tax rate. .
American Sell-Outs Take Chavez Blood Money
The more I see, the more I realize that almost no one really cares about right and wrong. They care about money and supporting anyone who opposes George W. Bush." Over a coffee last week with a high-level official of our government, that was the comment made to me regarding the Hugo Chavez-Citgo-Joe Kennedy II propaganda campaign now running across our nation. In TV commercials and in full-page print advertising, former Rep. Joe Kennedy thanks "our good friends in Venezuela" for helping to heat America's poor. Other than to accept blood money, the government official I spoke with was at a loss to understand why some in the American media would run ads by a thug who exploits and ignores the poor in his nation, creates fear in the region and is, as a major newspaper just described him, an ally to terrorists, drug traffickers and mass murderers.
Theft of deputy’s SUV ends in arrest
A shoeless, drunken man allegedly broke out the window of a Pierce County sheriff's deputy's SUV and took off in the idling patrol vehicle Wednesday. The man ditched the Ford Expedition on a dead-end road less than two miles away, stole a bicycle and a pair of shoes and was arrested within an hour after a police dog tracked him down, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. "This guy went to the extreme by smashing the window out," he said. "We don't usually have people trying to steal fully marked police cars that are locked." The man was treated at a local hospital for dog bites and was to be booked in the Pierce County Jail on two counts of first-degree theft and one count each of malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest and drunken driving. Troyer gave this account of what investigators believe happened: The deputy, a 15-year veteran of the force whose name was not released, had responded about 7:45 a.m.
Monday wild card
As you are all aware, a local newspaper printed an editorial that criticized our City for requiring Ironman USA to reimburse our City for services provided during the bike race through Post Falls. I wanted to give you some information on what some of the other Cities that host Ironman events require. Please do not think that I am picking a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. I would like to give you information about Ironman events in other areas and cities." For the rest of Cliff's memo to the mayor and council, click here. DFO: Cliff makes a good argument. .
American Idol Buzz
It was nice to see some of those legends, especially James Ingram and Georgia's own Gladys Knight (Smokey Robinson didn't sound good at all), but I'm not sure this will be a must-watch week in and week out. I can also live without Lee Ann Womack or Michael Bolton. Too bad they couldn't get any rock stars or even pseudo rock stars like Bryan Adams or Rod Stewart. Of the others, Lucy Lawless has potential and looks hot as a blond. Alfonso Ribeiro is goofy and has great stage presence, even if his vocals can get sloppy. He'll be around awhile. A surprisingly stiff Cheech Marin reminds me of some random dude at a late-night karaoke bar. David Foster was much too kind to him. I can see him going home quickly. Lea Thompson has some skills and she's aging like fine wine. Hal Sparks? A white boy trying way too hard.
