| McCain Camp Declares Victory
There may be places where a physical barrier is appropriate. I think when both of us voted for this we were voting for the possibility that where it was appropriate and made sense it would be considered, but as with so much, the Bush administration has gone off the deep end, and they are unfortunately coming up with a plan that I think is counterproductive. [E.A.] Hmm. Isn't that a little like voting for the Iraq War and then saying you were just voting for the possibility that if it were appropriate it would be considered? In this case, though, Obama is attempting the same two-step. He says he and Clinton "almost entirely agree" regarding the fence, adding As Senator Clinton indicated, there may be areas where it makes sense to have some fencing. But for the most part, having Border Patrol, surveillance, deploying effective technology, that's going to be the better approach.

MEP: We need a 225mph rail line
MEP: We need a 225mph rail line Published on 12/02/2008 THE north west could become an economic backwater unless it gets a 225 mph rail link connecting Carlisle with the Channel tunnel, says one of the region's MEPs. Liberal Democrat Chris Davies wants the Government to confirm Britain will follow Europe in building new high-speed lines. He said France already has 1,000 miles of high-speed track with a further 500 miles in the pipeline. By contrast the UK has just 68 miles, from London to the Channel Tunnel. Mr Davies accused Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly of pursuing a “make do and mend" policy. The MEP said: “Given the cost savings to be made by sharing much of the infrastructure with Yorkshire and the north east the obvious access route would be a line passing under the Peak District Park by way of Woodhead Tunnel." The Woodhead line between Manchester and Sheffield was closed in 1981 but is good condition and could be quickly reopened, said Mr Davies.
Wind Tunnel Tuneup: Faster Bikes
The numbers on the meter provide a relative measure of Gotti's aerodynamic efficiency. As the wind flows past Gotti, some of it is interrupted. This causes the floor that takes up most of the center of the tunnel to dip and sway ever so slightly. Since the floor is actually the top of a massive aerodynamic balance, the slightest movement is measured and recorded by a bank of computers. Later these second-by-second samplings will be distilled into information that hopefully will help Gotti win the world's best-known bicycle race. As the test begins, the numbers on the display fluctuate randomly. Then, as Gotti lowers his head, they begin to drop: 3.0, 2.82, 2.65. The numbers give Gotti a relative measure of the degree to which his bicycle and body impede airflow. Smaller numbers represent less aerodynamic drag.

Q&A: Wilma Warshak Keeping port sites in sight
There's different reasons. The Port of Tacoma has done an incredible job of really creating much more momentum in the market. It's guiding a lot more end users who are coming into this port, which creates demand for warehouses and distribution centers. … it creates this whole synergy. So that's part of it. And part is that when the development cycle came back after the 2001 debacle, the market shifted again and the developers did what they did best, which is develop. Most of the available land sites were south. How did you get interested in industrial real estate? I actually started as an architect. I came out here to go to architectural school at the University of Washington. I always loved real estate and architecture was one component of that, but I wasn't fully in the trenches.
