New eras can reveal themselves in the oddest ways. A revelation came to me at a recent Los Angeles screening of an animated feature for kids. As soon as the lights went down and the first sequence filled the screen -- a huge curved expanse in one of the city's last remaining single-screen movie palaces -- a young mother sitting with two kids near me pulled out a pair of earbuds, stuck them in her ears and started watching her own show on her iPhone.

I couldn't tell what it was because her screen was so small, but it didn't matter. Watching her fixated by whatever wee spectacle it was, I thought I could see the death knell -- can you see a knell? In this case yes -- of theatrical exhibition as we know it. The YouTube generation has already begun to lose the theatergoing habit, this mother's semipresence notwithstanding, and has embraced the notion of video on iPods and cellphones, as well as on computers.

Airport defibrillator saves heart attack victim

The Ohio man was the 19th person resuscitated at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport since the installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in December 2000. He was reported today to be in stable condition.

According to airport authorities, on Wednesday night a Mesa Airlines flight, operating as US Airways Express, was pulling away from the gate when the man collapsed.

Another passenger, an off-duty paramedic, checked the man for a pulse, didnt detect a heartbeat and then began CPR. After the pilot pulled the plane back to the gate, a Mesa Airlines employee retrieved an AED and used it.

Phoenix fire paramedics on bicycles arrived in less than three minutes and determined that the mans pulse had been restored.

However, I was born in a Catholic family and baptized as well. But I do not know what my beliefs are yet. I belive and I have my questions. Any way, I had one more wierd question I guess you could put it... how do you know where to point on the green screen when you are on the air? Thanks again,Amanda Langage-17

Thanks Amanda...sorry if my response to you was somewhat confusing...But in a nutshell, here is my opinion on the issue:Since the beginning of the earth and its atmosphere, there is evidence that the climate (or averaged weather conditions) has always fluctuated over various time periods, both up (warmer conditions) and down (cooler conditions). Currently, it appears we are in a period of slow warming. The question is whether human activities (specifically the burning of fossil fuels, including coal and petroleum products) will lead to a warming that will be irreversible.

Lancaster boy beaten with bat over a bike 5:18 PM

LANCASTER, S.C. -- A 13-year-old boy endured a brutal beating, as a police report the details of how he was hit with a bat, punched in the abdomen, kicked in the side, rolled down a hill -- all because of a bike.

Detectives say his attackers could face some serious prison time.

"We had a kid that noticed his bicycle was gone from the front of his apartment," said Lancaster police detective Brenner Hartley.

So the 13-year-old boy went looking and found it quickly. His bike was behind his home with five teenage boys crowded around it. Investigators say the boy knew it was his bike because it's not like any other bike in the neighborhood.

"It was a bike made up of many different parts, it was blue, and it was a trick bike," said Hartley.

ON JULY 21, Egyptians awoke to blaring newspaper headlines announcing that gasoline and diesel prices had shot up by as much as 30 percent.

“Economically speaking, raising energy prices cannot be debated. The global price of oil extremely high, while we buy it at one of the lowest [retail] prices [in the world],” says Hazem El-Beblawi, an economic expert and an advisor with the Arab Monetary Fund. “In the meantime, the budget carries a deficit, so they have to find ways to address this deficit. One of those ways is the rationalization of [energy] prices.”
