| BRR: Braving the cold on a bike
A biker can easily spend a grand to stay warm for a short commute, a training ride or an outfit for Saturday's BRR trip from Perry to Rippey. "For a thousand bucks," said Donny Quixote of Rasmussen Bike Shop in West Des Moines, "you're on the road." Scott Sumpter, creator of bikeiowa.com, bought a pair of biking boots that clip into his pedals for $270. So-called lobster mittens with two finger sleeves ($50 or more) have also helped. Extremities tend to get colder on a bike than running in the cold, he said. .
Bear with Us
Fox shows a montage of Brian Urlacher being nasty to the tune of U2's "Even Better Than the Real Thing." And Big Fat Meanie, I wouldn't worry about the Bears letting up. They did go for it on 4th and Goal from the 1 up 24-0. Jones gets a couple, then a couple more. San Francisco calls a timeout. Why? Don't they want to make this punishment go quickly? Caldarelli just IM'ed me, summing this game up in three succinct words: "Niners really suck." Grossman has all sorts of time, hits Muhammad way downfield, Muhammad holds on despite being hit as he caught it, and the Bears have 1st and 10 at the 49ers' 36. Benson gets a couple then Grossman hits Moose with a very very low throw on which Moose makes a great fingertip catch just shy of the first. Jones gets it to the 25. Swing pass left to Berrian, but he had to stop to get it, which negates the purpose of the swing pass, and he gets dropped for only one yard.
Shutterbug prompts border concerns
LANGLEY, B.C. - It's probably not wise to take photographs of border crossings in countries ruled by military governments. Now a visiting Costa Rican student has learned it's a bad idea in Canada, too. The 17-year-old was surrounded by RCMP officers in Langley, B.C. on Sunday afternoon following reports from the Canadian Border Services Agency that a suspicious man on a bicycle was taking pictures of the U.S. crossing. Officers took no chances because the unprotected border at Aldergrove, southeast of Vancouver, is frequently used for drug, gun and immigrant smuggling. The teen, who has limited English, provided several photos of the Aldergrove crossing but couldn't produce his Costa Rican passport, visitor's visa or the telephone number or address where he was staying.
ADAC continues to set standard for industry
Most interior product lines are either represented in an ADAC showroom or have their own space there. For instance, international fabric companies Brunschwig & Fils, Duralee and Clarence House all have ADAC space. Showrooms include high-end furniture and antiques, rugs and floor coverings, kitchen design and equipment, lighting and lamps and virtually any item one finds in residential or commercial space. Additionally, local design luminaries such as Jerry Pair, Dorothy H. Travis and Leslie Holland have their own showrooms. While Atlanta is home to other design venues, such as Miami Circle, ADAC "helped establish Atlanta as a design center," said Savannah School of Art and Design-Atlanta interior design professor Liset Robinson. "As Atlanta grows, it's becoming a hub for interior design, and ADAC is certainly a part of that." Some professionals assert that ADAC is paramount nationally as a design destination.
