Lynn Landes: There's a History of Suspected Vote Fraud In NH - Forget 'Official Recounts', Do Citizen Audits So, here we are again in the dark as to what really happened.Let me be clear about this.Vote fraud is not just about the machines.Election integrity is about complete & total transparency. As long as we vote by absentee(first allowed in the 1870's), secret ballots(introduced in the 1880's),& voting machines(in the 1890's),voters & candidates alike will be sitting ducks for vote fraud. Our only good option is the Citizen Audit.

Bicyclist killed; pickup driver faces DUI manslaughter charges

A bicyclist was killed Monday night on U.S. 41 when a pickup truck hit her from behind, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP reports that Robert James Bacon, 33, of Naples faces charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

Maria Alba Alvarez-Hernandez, 38, of Naples was pronounced dead at the scene, which was near Imperial Golf Course Boulevard.

FHP reports state both the truck and bicycle were southbound on U.S. 41, with the bicycle in its proper lane and the truck in another lane. Reports state the truck crossed into the bicycle lane and hit Alvarez-Hernandez's bicycle. The truck then fled the scene, FHP reports state.

The reports do not say if there were witnesses to identify the truck, but troopers report that it was found and its driver has been identified as Bacon.

Sound Advice: How to find an independently owned TV store

I recently spoke with the manager of my favorite CEDIA store and as we looked at his beautifully decorated showroom, divided into separate viewing areas with big comfy couches, I mentioned how much better off people would be if they went to his store rather than the big-box places. He laughed and said, "When people see all this they think it is going to cost them more to do business here than the big places, when it costs the same or less." CEDIA members usually have special financing offers available from manufacturers, and many of them are also members of Brandsource as well.

I've preached the value of independently owned retailers for years, and in writing this column it made me reflect on each major purchase. In each case I received a better deal and truly impressive service from people who own the store and make it their profession, not just an hourly job.

September 2007 Parking Study

The Downtown Parking District offers more than 4,000 free customer parking spaces. Employees are prohibited from using these free spaces between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day of the year except Christmas Day.

Except where marked otherwise, street parking is free with a two-hour time limit on any given block. A block is marked from intersection to intersection, both sides of the street. If a car is moved from one space to another within the same block, it continues to be timed within that two-hour frame. Overparked vehicles can be cited as many as three times per day. The two-hour time restriction is designed to ensure space turnover for downtown visitors throughout the day.

Each of the city's three parking garages, Liberty Street, Chemeketa and Marion Street Parkades, has free parking available for shoppers without the two-hour restrictions.

Look out for skid marks

In December, as his Harvey Norman electrical and furniture empire was riding the pre-Christmas rush, his 30 per cent stake in the company was worth somewhere north of $2 billion. Since then it has been a slalom run for the shares amid the general stock market carnage and concern that Reserve Bank boss Glenn Stevens's repeated interest rate rises will crimp consumer spending. Yesterday, Harvey was worth $1.5 billion and falling. But don't weep for him. He still has outside interests in horseflesh and property. He cannily offloaded two million shares for $11.8 million in cash near the top of the market just before Christmas, and his wife, Katie Page, has about $80 million worth of shares.

VICTORIAN Supreme Court judge Betty King may know a lot about the law but she clearly isn't too computer savvy.

Amgen Tour to bring flurry to Solvang

The Amgen Tour of California returns Thursday to San Luis Obispo and Friday to Solvang, bringing with it top international bicyclists, worldwide media coverage, thousands of cowbell-equipped spectators - and a number of road closures.

The Tour of California, the nation's largest and most competitive professional cycling tour, is a 650-mile, eight-stage race, similar in format to the Tour de France.

The race, which began Sunday with a prologue time trial in Palo Alto, will continue south near the California

coastline until it finishes in Pasadena on Sunday. In prior years, the route has been lined with thousands of spectators each day.

Thursday's fourth stage will be a long, scenic 135-mile ride along Highway 1 starting at 10 a.m.
