Face Time Max DeMilner
One wheelie motivated unicyclist, this Peru native is ready to go the distance. While attending college at the University of Maine at Farmington this year, long-distance unicyclist Max DeMilner of Peru continues to train for three upcoming unicycle races. These include two uphill races - one in New York, the other in Vermont - and Ride the Lobster, a 500-mile relay race across Nova Scotia this summer. DeMilner's quirky "Six States, One Wheel" unicycle journey in 2006 on a 720-mile loop through New England to raise money for college spawned the Ride the Lobster debut, an international unicycling endurance relay race. DeMilner and his brother, Kyle DeMilner of Philadelphia, and their dad, Charles DeMilner of Flagstaff, Ariz., will compete in Lobster as Team DeMilner.
IA Senator Wants Driver's Licenses for Bikes
IOWA CITY – State lawmakers have several big issues to tackle this legislative session. One of the more interesting proposals involves requiring people to pay to ride their bikes. An eastern Iowa senator is pushing the bill. Senator John Putney wants bicyclists to be licensed. The Tama republican says the measure will help pay for state infrastructure. But as you might guess, cyclists have plenty of questions. The political wheels are greased and the state legislature is ready to roll. One bump in the road is a possible fee for riding a bike in parts of the state. It is a required driver's license for riding on highways and secondary roads. Cyclist Jason Hicks said, “You have a driver's license, you should be able to ride a bike, I hope. That's ridiculous. Do I have to ride my bike around the block with a little old lady?"Obviously, bike enthusiasts are not so enthused with the proposal.
Self-service spruce-up
Sometimes, dreams of a lifetime take almost a lifetime to fulfill.Fifty years ago, Don Bentz, co-owner of Bentz's Town Pump in Casper, heard a story about a car wash in Canada built inside a giant oil field tank. The idea of an indoor car wash fascinated Bentz. Now, after 50 years of thinking about it and 10 years of actually working on it, Bentz's Self Serve Auto Center, including an indoor car wash, is tentatively scheduled to open on Feb. 18 next to Bentz's Town Pump, 701 W. Collins Dr."This is something I've always wanted to do," Bentz said. "Who wants to wash their car in the hot sun? Who wants to wash their car in the wind and cold?"Of course, this car wash isn't inside an oil storage tank. It's a hot water operation from presoaks to final rinse, heated in winter and cooled in summer, complete with sophisticated air exchange and oil recycling systems. The auto center actually is comprised of two service areas.
CB Top 5: Worst Oscar Winners
Rich Knight: Ridley Scott is the most overrated director in Hollywood. And I think the fact that he lost best director to Steven Soderbergh that year, who was on fa fa fa fire for both Erin Brockovich and Traffic is a testament to how much this proves my theory that he sucks. Gladiator is the kind of pump your fist and yell film that Braveheart popularized and made violence a household name in the Oscars yearly selection. That said, while Braveheart had its moments of brilliance as Mel Gibson waxed philosophical about freedom in an almost poetic manner, Ridley Scotts tribute to togas and sandals winds up feeling like one long, stiff monologue with sporadic intervals of way too fast combat that gets lost in terrible cinematography. If not for a brilliant Joaquin Phoenix, who was rightly nominated, but wrongly snubbed, this film would be as bad and as hokey as Oliver Stones (another hackney director) Alexander.
Science TSA Wants Your Feedback via Official Blog
Few will argue that security at air ports can be difficult and taxing during the best of times. All the added security became commonplace around the country since the terrorist attacks in 2001. In an attempt to give travelers a place to voice concerns and ask questions the TSA set up a blog to allow its employees to interact with air travelers. In one of the first posts TSA Administrator Kip Hawley explained the goal of the blog as: Our ambition is to provide here a forum for a lively, open discussion of TSA issues. While I and senior leadership of TSA will participate in the discussion, we are turning the keyboard over to several hosts who represent what's best about TSA (its people). Our hosts aren't responsible for TSA's policies, nor will they have to defend them -- their job is to engage with you straight-up and take it from there.

The feud is over the refusal of Christodoulides, and three other former MPs, to hand in to the party the lump money they received on their retirementtotalling 345.000. Akel insists there is a decision taken unanimously in 1991 by the central committee that such money be deposited in the "Solidarity Fund" which provides for needy Akel pensioners. The four MPs argue the money is a form of pension or provident fund, ensured by law, and they should not be obliged to give it up. This was an illegal move by the Akel leadership, taken in violation of the party charter, Christodoulides declared. According to estimates, the four former MPs are entitled to about 85,000 each. Punishment The refusal of the four brought a harsh punishment from the Akel central committee.
Nevadans in quake: "Scariest thing ever"
WELLS, Nev. (AP) -- No serious injuries were reported but a number of area residents said they were scared to death by the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked northeast Nevada early Thursday. "It was scary, the scariest thing ever," said Karen Swabb, who lives in Clover Valley near the epicenter of the quake about 11 miles southeast of Wells. "I never imagined it could be like that," she told the Elko Daily Free Press. She said friends in Wells told her "one of their fish flew out of the bowl." Donna Anderson of Wells said there was no advance warning before the quake hit at 6:16 a.m. "It just immediately jumped into rattling the walls," she told The Associated Press from the Wagon Wheel residential motel where she lives with her dog, Sis.
