Beach narrows its list of potential Dome developers

I'd like to be able to walk on the boardwalk at the beach and get something to eat. I'd like to be able to take my family to walk around the shops without feeling like I am going to be run down by cars (since your beach boardwalk is non-existent and the shops are on atlantic or in the town center). I'd like to be able to drive anywhere in the city without being stuck at traffic lights.

I doubt whether this latest development will address any of this tourist's desires.

I come to VB because I have family in the area. But to have fun (and, generally, to spend money), I go to Ocean City, Maryland or the Outer Banks. And, it is a shame, because when I first starting coming here, 20-some years ago, VB was a lovely resort town.

* Gohar says practice contributing to terrorist activities, and despite repeated requests authorities not helping

By Malik Siraj Akbar

QUETTA: Balochistan Inspector General (IG) of Police Saud Gohar on Monday voiced discontent at the governments failure to obligate mobile phone companies to ensure proper customer registration.

He said the misuse of unregistered mobile phone numbers had become an irksome contribution to terrorist activities in the province. Balochistan police is deeply concerned by the unregulated system of providing Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards to customers, the IG told reporters at a press conference.

The police department has continuously been requesting concerned government authorities to deal with the issue, but no encouraging steps have been taken so far, he said.

Mazda's Sweet Little CX-7

Crossover vehicles are hot sellers right now. So why is one of the hottest models in the segment—Mazda's curvaceous CX-7—suddenly not doing so well? The answer seems to be that there are now so many excellent crossovers crowding onto the market that shoppers can afford to be far more finicky than they were even six months ago.

For all of last year, North American sales of the CX-7 were up 86.6%, to 41,659. But the model peaked late last summer. Sales fell by 23.2% in October, 21% in November, rose a meager 1.9% in December, and fell again by 7.6%, to 2,555, in January.

What pulled the rug out? Shoppers have a lot more crossover vehicles to choose from than before, for one thing. These include Honda's (HMC) wildly popular CR-V and Toyota's (TM) Rav4, as well as such new models as the Nissan (NSANY) Rogue, the redesigned Saturn Vue, and the redesigned Ford Escape.

Don't root for the bad guy, because although he may have several spacious New York City apartments, a closet full of natty suits, and a beauty-queen wife (and treat his momma right), he's still a cold-blooded killer. Ridley Scott's American Gangster — based on a New York magazine article profiling Frank Lucas, a real-life drug kingpin in 1960s and '70s Harlem — makes sure we understand that Lucas (Denzel Washington) is responsible for unleashing deadly, near-pure heroin (imported directly from Southeast Asian sources at the height of the Vietnam War) onto American streets. Paralleling Lucas's rise to power, with far less glamour, is the story of cop Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe), who's also a lawyer (thanks to night school) and a man of unimpeachable character — to his detriment, as it turns out, since every other officer on the force is totally dirty and won't work with him.

Former NBA superstar Michael Jordan visits Slidell Boys and Girls Club ...

At least he is putting it in the hands of people that are going to make a difference. If he would have given it to Orleans Parish the mayor and his cronies would have stole most of it and only put less then half of it into building a Recreational Center. Thanks Micheal for thinking of the children of LOUISIANA!!!!!

I don't even watch the NBA no more because it's not the same without MJ....THE BEST EVER TO PLAY THE SPORT!!!!!!!!!

Hometown of Giants GM Jerry Reese bursting with pride

TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. -- Cara Jones, the 74-year-old owner of the Lake County Banner, hoots when she hears about The Star-Ledger's Super Bowl Road Trip, which has stopped in her town on the way to Arizona.

"You're going where after this?" she says, her eyebrows raised as she looks up from her cluttered desk in the dusty newsroom, plaques and photos covering the walls. "People don't come here on the way to somewhere else. The road doesn't lead anywhere else." .

Bellview Grange, school at odds over easement

The Ashland Planning Commission was blindsided at its Tuesday meeting when it learned the Bellview Grange would not agree to a "perpetual easement" the Bellview Elementary School needs for parking and access through its property.

Howard Barash, president of the Bellview Grange Board, told commissioners that he wants to work with the Ashland School Board to find an amicable solution to the problem and that the two boards currently are in negotiations with each other.

He said he presented the school board with four alternative options, one being that the school district purchase all or part of the Grange's property.

Commissioners John Fields and Michael Dawkins looked shocked when they heard the news.

Commissioner Melanie Mindlin said, "I feel like this is coming out of left field."

Tom Dimitre said he felt it was kind of late in the game to learn that there are property problems.
