| Bismarck teacher is suspended
I have a daughter in this age group who is very thoughtful, who is studying different religions because it is one of the most important decisions anyone can make, if the consequence for choosing the wrong one is what is depicted in this film. I could almost kick myself for sending her to bible day camps that actually taught this kind of garbage because it has caused her great panic over being wrong and sent to hell. Some kids may roll their eyes at movies like this and not pay it a second thought, but kids like my daughter could be scarred for life over it. My daughter does not play violent video games, and what other kids say in school is not the same as a teacher, being a person of authority, incorporating it into his teaching. Getting a child to believe that he/she will burn in hell for eternity because they picked the wrong religion, or was raised by parents of the wrong religion is the worst form of cruelty for someone who takes these matters seriously.
Jupiter Island 'reviewing its options' to regulate the number of ...
State Road 707 winding north and south through the lush Town of Jupiter Island has long been a paradise for residents and area bicyclists, but that popularity is now causing concern for both. “It's one of the most beautiful roads in Martin County," said John Silvia, owner of Pro Cycles in Stuart. “And with the trees and the winding curves, it's one of the most popular biking roads as well." But the attributes luring cyclists to the meandering, canopied drive also make it dangerous for the competing modes of travel, said Town Director of Public Safety Chief Ted Gonzales. Gonzales recently sent a letter to area bicycle shops and clubs in an attempt to reach out to the groups and urge riders to comply with the rules of the road, informing them the town commission is “reviewing its options" to regulate the number of cyclists that can ride together in a single group in order to make the town “as safe as possible." Gonzales said the town sees some 800 cyclists in groups of 40 to 75 pedaling through town on the weekends — some of whom disregard stop signs and ride three and four abreast, he said.
Fraud claimed in home deals
I'd wager the real estate scammers seek out the least worldly people they can find. It wouldn't help them to use people who could detect the parts that didn't add up or who sought counsel from a bank or lawyer, etc. They have to be pretty desperate to deal with ordinary, working class families. (All the non-English speakers, kids and afflicted people must have been taken.) Maybe they could be compelled to build state-of-the art homes for these victims with all expenses for relocation, construction, etc. coming out of their pockets. Hmmm...I wonder if they ever got around to building condos where highways were going to go. How many times can one get cash for the same property? .
El Himer, Masai nab wins in Le Mans
I'm now looking forward to the French Championships (2 March in Laval, with the aim to match Noël Tijou's record of seven titles) but my preparation is geared toward a Marathon in April, either on 6th (Paris) or 13 (Rotterdam or London). The Le Mans race is profiled for 5000 and 10,000m runners. I hope to set the qualification standard for Olympic Games." His personal best stands at 2:06.48 since 2003 while 2:10:30 is required to be selected. “Last year was tainted by injuries, so since I'm self-coached I did some modifications in my training and I'm cautious about the reaction of my body," explained the 33-year-old. “I'm targeting a time around 2:08-2:07 in April." Bernard Kiplagat, 19, struggled to join Le Mans as he came from the north of Kenya on Friday via London after an eight hour car trip and finally arrived in France the day before the race.
Campaign scrambles to explain errant 'e'
1:30 P.M. A news release is e-mailed from a campaign spokeswoman. The colorful graphic letterhead features a picture of the candidate and the words, "Pat McCrory Governer" 2 P.M. Victoria Smith, McCrory's campaign manager, says in an interview, "There's no way this was misspelled ... somebody must have sent that out and hacked into that masthead." 2:30 P.M. The misspelling is fixed in the electronic news release, a graphic that can be updated even as it sits in reporters' computers. Smith said that no one from the campaign made any changes to the graphic and that the hacker who first sabotaged "governor" must have corrected the error. Smith said someone has been hacking McCrory's mayoral Web site for six months. 3 P.M. Colleen Brannan, a spokeswoman helping the campaign with Tuesday's announcement in Jamestown, tells a reporter that "governor" had been misspelled by a graphic designer working with the campaign.
Living Well: The road to a healthier lifestyle is paved with small ...
Some newly resolved health goals are tougher to achieve than others. Well, truth is, a majority of people don't make it out of January without dropping such personal campaigns as exercising more, eating better or quitting tobacco. It doesn't help that a lot of common health advice doesn't appear plausible or even totally clear to many Americans. Five servings of fruits and vegetables? Researchers are now urging us to get nine servings into our day? Either the five or nine takes some doing. Work out three times a week? Exercise scientists recommend 30 minutes of physical activity every day for optimal healthy and energy. Quitting tobacco is a consensus healthy move, but overly difficult. The typical ex-smoker tries several times before kicking tobacco.
